Upcoming Projects
Project: The great mid-west drive
The idea from this project stemmed from looking at the map of states I have left to visit (#36). With all of my traveling, I've found that it's unlikely I'll get anywhere in, say, Oklahoma unless I make it a serious point to go. My plan is this - fly into a major city, probably Oklahoma City. Drive north through Wichita, Kansas. Cut over to Kansas City, Missouri and then skirt up along the border between Nebraska and Iowa, finally hitting South Dakota and taking care of some items there (digging for megalodon fossils, seeing Mount Rushmore). Last but not least, drive up to North Dakota to knock that state off the list and then fly from there back home. During this trip I would also be trying to hit some amusement parks along the way, as well as any other interesting road side attractions.
Project: Arizona
Who would have known there was so much to do in Arizona?? I have spent time around the Grand Canyon and driven completely through the state, from Chambers through Sedona and up through to Kingman towards Las Vegas. Arizona is a huge state. I feel like I have seen everything there is to see there, but that's far from the truth.
This project would involve driving down first through Lake Havasu City to see the London Bridge, and then through Phoenix down to Tombstone and exploring around there. I also want to go to the Superstition mountains east of Phoenix although I need to do a little more research on the Lost Dutchman mine there. This would only leave the vortex tour of Sedona to go on, and I'm not 100% sure if I want to do that or not. Maybe I could hit it on the return trip home. Sedona is an odd city - a little to arty and pretentious for me. It just seemed like a town out of the Twilight Zone, filled with pod people. It would be cool to stay at the Jerome Grand Inn, though.
Project: Tour of Texas
Ok, so I lived in Texas for 2 years, and I have driven across the entire state twice, but there is still a lot I have left to see there. The idea for this trip is to fly into Austin and try to see the exodus of the bats from the bat caves. Next step would be to go over to San Antonio and see the Alamo, go on the river walk and hit the two theme parks there (Sea World and Six Flags Fiesta) and then head over to Houston to hit the theme park there (Six Flags Astroworld). While I am there, I would like to go over to Galveston too, as I have an ancestor that came into the country there.
