Adventure list #6: Taste Absinthe

COMPLETED

Ah, Absinthe... you know, the stuff that made all those French creative types go loco? Absinthe remains banned throughout most of the world, although it is legalized in Spain and some other countries.

Current Status: I have three options here: I can try to wait until I end up in a country where it has been legalized, I can try to order it from one of these countries, or I can make my own. I have found kits online to do so, and it seems a bit more interesting than just ordering it. I have yet to do so, however.

Update 10-18-02: I ordered a kit to make absinthe, so all that remains now is to make it.

Update 11-30-02: The kit I ordered never came, the check remains uncashed. I did find a bottle of Absinthe in a liquor store in Dallas, but the price was a bit steep. There is a club in Los Angeles that I will be going to in December, and they serve Absinthe there. Not quite the same as having it in Europe, but still...

Update 3-03

I didn't go to the club, but I did get the bottle of Absinthe from the liquor store mentioned above. It is a product of France so it's kind of like I've had "real" absinthe. Not sure if I am counting this yet or not. Nah. I want Absinthe served to me.

Update 5-03

Completed! We went to Bar Sinister in Hollywood and I got to sample Absinthe again. In comparison to the Absinthe I had before - well, it tasted the same, but it sure hit me a lot harder. Not exactly in a good way, either. Needless to say, the car required extensive cleaning the following morning. Who knows, maybe it just wasn't my night! At any rate, another adventure list item down.
